While this might be a given for most available sites, it can be a big issue. Municipal and urban fire and emergency services organizations are often looking for new sites to provide service to an expanding response footprint¹. This typically comes through annexation. There have been many cases where a department is required to provide emergency response services before public water has been provided. This requires drilling a well that will hopefully provide enough flow and storage to satisfy the facility’s needs. If the station is to be staffed 24 hours a day, the water demands are typically much higher than a normal single-family dwelling. (P.27)
