This event should be held on site by the local government. It is an opportunity for the participants to be recognized and for dedications to be made. Plenty of time should be allotted for this event, and it should be held on a Saturday in the spring or fall to allow for the largest public participation. During the grand opening¹, the organization should consider facility tours, hold demonstrations, give rides on apparatus, and allow the community to take pride and ownership of their new facility. The contractor can also participate by assisting in the tours, displaying construction techniques used in the project, and providing
barbecue meals and/or refreshments. (P.46)
