Avondale fire station 171

Station 171 was originally built in 1985 and reconstructed in 2004. As AFM’s busiest station, the Fighting 171 proudly protects Avondale’s Historic District and neighborhoods, the Phoenix-Goodyear Airport, and some of Avondale’s largest big box commercial businesses¹.  E171 is one of the units assigned to Station 171 which is staffed by one Captain, one Engineer, and two Firefighters.  At least two of the personnel assigned to E171 are paramedics.  BR171 is a four-wheel drive truck with special capabilities for responding to brush fires.  When dispatched for a brush fire, E171’s crew will respond in BR171.  Considered a Type 3 Engine, BR171 is often deployed around the southwest to help protect communities threatened by large wildfires.  WT171 is a 2000-gallon water tender that was acquired using a generous grant from the Gila River Indian Community.  WT171 provides a mobile water source for firefighting operations in areas where hydrants are in short supply.
