NFPA 1710 for career departments has more stringent requirements than does NFPA 1720 for volunteer departments.

NFPA 1710 requires the following:
1.Turnout time¹ for fire responses — 80 seconds.
2.Turnout time for emergency medical responses — 60 seconds.

1. turnout time: 「出動時間」。NFPA 1710 名詞定義為接到出勤通知到人車離開消防廳舍的時間，稱為 turnout time，同「消防機關火場指揮及搶救作業要點」第7點所提到的「出動時間」。

   3.出動時間：
   （1）於出動警鈴響起至消防人車離隊，白天八十秒內，夜間一百二 十秒內為原則。但消防機關因出勤動線及出勤整備，認有延長 或縮短之必要者，得自訂出動時間。
   
   另外，比起PPE(個人防護裝備)，美國消防口語上更常說”turnout gear” 或 “turnout”，所以 turnout time 之所以指「出動時間」也是因為那段時間正是消防員換裝出勤的時間。 ↩︎
