Once the equipment, staff and functional needs have been determined, the architect can begin the design development phase of the project. This is where the floor plan can begin to take shape¹. This is also where the “look” of the facility begins to be discussed. This phase is one of the most important phases of the project and should be given the most time and effort by the team. This phase is also where the organization will have involvement and will need to make critical decisions affecting the outcome. This phase is where the architect’s knowledge and experience in fire and emergency services will be evident! (P.43)
