Avondale fire station 175
Station 175 is Avondale Fire & Medical’s newest fire station and was constructed in 2021 and located in the middle of the city to fill a response gap and provide call relief to Avondale’s four other stations. The station currently houses BC171, L175, and LT175. L175 is staffed by one Captain, one Engineer, and two Firefighters. At least two crew members on L175 are paramedics. Ladder companies perform special functions on the emergency scene; extrication, ventilation, forcible entry, deploying ground ladders, and operating elevated master streams. Since ladder trucks are expensive apparatus to purchase and maintain, AFM also has LT175 assigned to the station. LT175 is operated by the same crew as L175 but is utilized to respond to mostly EMS calls, keeping the wear and tear down on L175. BC171 is staffed by one Battalion Chief (BC) and one Captain (Battalion Safety Officer or BSO). The BC serves as the shift commander and the BSO as the shift’s Safety Officer. BC171 normally responds to larger incidents where a formal incident command system is needed to effectively and safely manage the emergency response. LA175 is a two-person unit that responds to low acuity calls1 within Avondale which leaves the other units available for more emergent ALS calls, fires, or rescues. The units from Station 175 are charged with protecting the business corridors along Dysart Road and Avondale Blvd, the BLVD commercial and entertainment center, the residents of Coldwater Springs, and several multi-family residences located in the center of Avondale.
